LOW CARBON COMMUNITIES INITIATIVE
NKS worked with women and their families to lower their carbon footprints by: reusing and recycling materials such as clothes, glass, card, paper and wood etc.; gardening; car sharing; home energy checks; walking and cycling etc. They came to NKS to find out more about carbon reduction and how they could make a difference.
The idea for the NKS Climate Challenge Initiative (NKS CCI) project came out of the consultation that was carried out under the Development Grant from Keep Scotland Beautiful. The women that were consulted expressed a huge interest in the project. They expressed their interest in waste recycling, food growing and energy efficiency. Since the consultation many women showed interest in learning how to ride a bicycle.
NKS has worked with South Asian communities in Edinburgh for the last five years to raise awareness of the changes taking place in the global climate conditions and its impact on the planet Earth. The organisation has achieved positive outcomes that have ensured changed behaviour among people to help reduce carbon foot prints.
We worked closely with the local communities to ensure sustainable changed behaviour that has had long term impact on the challenges thrown up by climate change.
